Japan is a hub for travel in Asia. While you are spoiled with choices for things to see and do domestically in Japan, other countries in Asia have never been more accessible. Many Interac ALTs take advantage of the long breaks during summer and winter as well as the time between contracts in March and April to travel within this region.

Air Travel

Hundreds of flights connect destinations all over the world everyday with Japan’s major airports. The four major airports in Japan are Narita International Airport near Tokyo (IATA: NRT), Tokyo International Airport Haneda (IATA: HND), Kansai International Airport near Osaka (IATA: KIX), and Chubu Centrair International Airport near Nagoya (IATA: NGO). You can also find international airports in Sapporo, Sendai, and Fukuoka that offer flights mainly within Asia.

Many major airlines fly into Japan on a frequent basis. We recommend considering one of the three major airline alliances, SkyTeam®, Star Alliance®, or oneworld®, when selecting your airline of choice as it is likely that, once you become an ALT, your travel frequency will increase as will your potential to benefit from airline frequent flyer programs.

If cost is a priority, low-cost carriers (LCC) are growing in number and network in Japan. The major LCCs operating on domestic networks include Jetstar Japan, Peach Aviation, Vanilla Air, Skymark Aviation, Air Do, and Star Flyer. Internationally and within Asia, Jetstar Airways, AirAsia, Scoot, and Cebu Pacific offer scheduled services.
